Schwalbe Durano S

Hi,

Just wondered if anyone running these can feedback on how they've found them for performance (rolling resistance & grip) and p*******s, please.

I was looking to swap out my Conti GrandSport Race tyres for some GP4000IIs or standard Schwalbe Duranos in the Spring, but my LBS has a few Durano S Etapes left in (23mm, folding) and is flogging them off at £18 each so was wondering whether to just plump for those instead. Are they any cop? The review here is excellent, but it seems from the Schwalbe website that they've stopped doing them, so maybe they weren't all that good over time?

In an ideal world I'd get them anyway as a back-up set but I've spent an inordinate amount on bikes and gear this year and have just spent £56 on some Marathon Deluxe for my winter bike so can't really afford to buy another 2 sets of rubber.

Cheers, Andy

I run Durano Plus on my distance bike and haven't had any issues with them at all. I've had 3 sets I think in 4 years and now I honestly wouldn't run anything else and would be nervous setting off on a different tyre. I have had punctures but in 4 years about 3 or 4 I think: one was something big that would have got through any tyre.

I used them for LEL in 2013 and they coped admirably. I haven't noticed a drop in overall speed since I started using them either.

So all the above is about the Plus, the S I would imagine has less rolling resistance but the Plus doesn't have much anyway. If they are lighter than the Plus, then the protection may have been lowered a little but probably not by a lot.

I'm not sure Schwalbe will have stopped doing them, they just change the naming conventions occasionally so they may be equivalent to something else now.

i ran them in a 25 size, thought thet were ace, never bought new ones as couldnt get the size at the right price at the time so bought something else which touch wood have been equally as good  . Which in all honesty tyre choice would appear to be luck !

I'm not sure the S version ever came in a 25mm did it? I may be wrong on this, but the LBS reckons 23mm is the only size they were ever sent and I can only find 23s online. Maybe you had the standard Duranos?
