Schwalbe Durano Plus tyre query...

Spring is here, so time to put on my Schwalbe Durano Plus tyres - great tyres but... I cannot get them on to fit 100%. In other words, near the valve, the tyre is raised by a milimetre or two. Meaning the tyre isn't rotating cleanly - it's as if one's cycling over a slight bump every wheel revolution. Have in the past asked the LBS to fit the tyre and they have also struggled with this issue. Question: has anyone else experienced this and if so, how did you resolve it? 🤔 Thanks

I've been running these tyres for years. You need to push the inner tube valve into the rim whilst seating the tyre. You need to get the tyre past the valve mounting which is much thicker rubber.

Thanks @ianrauk - will have another go later. I need to get this sorted as am planning to insert latex tubes later this month - which are more delicate to handle than the regular inner-tubes.

I am surprised you said your LBS are also struggling with it. Its really easy to sort.

Exactly that, try a bit of talc on the tyre and tube to help things slip past each other a bit better, it's an issue I have with some tyres and tubes. Particularly where I size up, or use the bigger sized inner tubes, where there is a choice for for the tyre size.

Another solution Ive tried, albeit on 26x2.10s is to over inflate the tyre by a small margin, then deflate completely and inflate again.

Width of tyre? Inner rim width?
But yes: push the valve in, before inflation, and get those beads either side in/under the hook.
LBS? Find it seriously difficult to believe, but if that's what you heard . . .

good advice above plus fit the tyre near the valve early in your "circuit" and finish with section at 90^ to the valve

Yes, I'm a "90 degree" man too. If you finish it off opposite the valve (ie 180) the beads by the valve cannot be in the well: and who would sensibly finish off at the valve?

@Ajax Bay makes a good point. Why lightweight tubes with a heavy tyre? You will notice no difference what so ever.

They are the only 25mm tyres I have (at the moment) and am keen to use my latex tubes now the good weather is here so as to reduce weight albeit slightly (especially with a 20 year old alloy frame)

One down side of latex tubes is that they loose pressure very quickly, and if damaged punctured almost impossible to repair.
Upsides lighter and give a 'smoother' ride. Though using Durano I'd doubt you'll notice.
To loose perceivable weight, wheels then tyres are the most effective route if keeping a bike.
