Hi,

Want to put some slicks on my older mtb for commute and use as winter road bike just for fitness. Anybody know if these are ok? £19.50 a pair or can anybody recommend anything else please?

They are excellent. My wife's got a pair on her bike and they've never had a puncture. Easy to get on from what I remember as well.

Recommended city street fodder for MTBers. Cracking tyres. Shop around, you may find them cheaper.

Edit. No, that looks like a good deal.

Pump to the max, about 80 psi IIRC, they fly compared with knobblies.

Continental Sport Contacts are also pretty good. I've been using them for a few years. Once they get a bit thin then you'll start to get punctures, but up til then, they're very good and the ride and grip is excellent.

I put them on my rebuilt mtb/trekking bike thing this winter and they have been terrific so far.

You need to run them close to at at the recommended pressure (80psi IIR) to really get the benefit..but they fly along compared to nobblies. No problem fitting and probably as puncture resistant as you could hope for at the price. Mine where £19.00 WITH tubes. Be aware that not ALL mtb tubes are specced to go with tyres as thin as 1.5 so read the small print if in doubt. I also have the slightly beefier Schwalbe CitiZen 1.75 tyre on my FS MTB at the mo and these are a really good compromise between road and light off-road (hard pack/path/fireroad). I really like these too but they seem rather difficult to find.
