Think I may have been a bit heavy handed as I broke the valve on my inner tube when tightening it. Just to be on the safe side I changed the tyre but when i was putting the new one on i noticed a lump of rough/hard plastic on the inner tube.

On closer inspection (I picked at it as it looked like a scab) it doesnt appear to have a hole in it and ihave the tyre up to 110psi now but just a bit nervy about commute tuesday as I dont mind changing tyres just would rather not on the side of the road.

Has anyone else ever had a scab like mass on an inner tube? if so, did it reduce the life of the tube?

(sure some of you have had them elswhere but not too worried about those ).

It will be fine it is just a cheep tube

Buggers.... there's me thinking if they write specialized down the side it must be good.

The guy from the shop I bought the new bike from put the tyre in the saddle bag when he threw it in the deal so I never had a need to check it out as I have not had a p******* yet (touching wood).

Well not sure whether it was coincidence or not but that tyre lasted about 30 miles! woke up ready for glorious morning ride into work and it was flat as a pancake!

To top that off the new spare tube I bought to replace the old one was the wrong tyre (rightbox wrong tyre inside)... that will teach me for nipping in to halfrauds on a sunday and not waiting till tuesday when the LBS opens after easter weekend!

The shame of getting a lift into work!!!

Was it a spesh valve you snapped?

I think they can be prone to coming away where the valve meets the tube. A couple of years ago I decided to pump up my tyres the night before a club run, snap .
Spare tube, same thing again.
Put my last tube in, it seemed OK
I repaired the least damaged of the other two.
Sod's law on the club run, I got my only p'ture of that year and the repair on the spare tube failed. They were spesh tubes.
