Saw a roadie hit the deck this morning

I hate autumn for that very reason. I avoid all the sheltered little lanes as much as I can between now and the New Year.

I sank today!
Out MTBing with the kids club, we were planning out possible routes for next weekends race/event. I was sent to scope out a route through the trees, was having much fun charging through the leaves - when suddenly I just dispapeared from view..there was a dip about 4 feet deep that was totaly hidden by the leaves!!
Took me another 5 mins to stop laughing to be able to clamber out!

Can we also mention manhole covers.

Out for my regular 30 miler this morning with a mate and he had a big moment on a manhole cover.

Luckily he wasn't hurt but it shook him a little. Mind you, that did make him back off a little - allowing the fat bloke on the Carerra to (finally) get in front of him and his fancy Boardman CF jobbie for once. Not much of a victory, I know !!!

three wheel drifting weeeeeeee i love it  mind it can be a bit disconcerting turning sharp left and you go straight on
when i used to commute on two wheels it was always a bit of a judgement call when i swapped the slick tyres over to the ones with tread and back again in the spring.

My cornering is pretty cr@p  but I think one of the benefits is that I lean less and touch wood I'm more stable.

Got on mine first time in a month due to repairs and first stop forgot to unclip. Frantically pulling my foot up just got out as I was on my way over. Talk about a close call !

Kepp in mind that the smallest fall can be very serious. I had a fall in August when in my local town at 8.30pm. Travelling fast into the town center, I took a right hand corner very fast, leant over too far, slipped on the damp ground, and slid right across the road. Fortunately there were no drivers around, just lots of peds which simply laughed at me. I got up, told a few people I was alright, checked my bike (chain had come off), noticed my knee was starting to bleed, and started to cycle home. About 100 yards, my knee was killing me and pouring with blood.

I managed to get home and demanded that someone took me to hospital immediately, where I had an x-ray and a doctor stuck his fingers in the wound (I had some pain killers so didnt feel a thing). The next morning I was the first one into surgery and had my knee cleaned and stitched up. I was then in hospital for only 4 days (noone works on a weekend), but it was the longest 4 days of my life (being in the Neurology ward did not help). When I got home, I had to endure 4 weeks of not cycling (well 3 after pulling my dads leg).

In the end the smallest wound can cause a whole heap of trouble. Also remember to roll along the ground, not just put pressure on your knee like me.

Must admit, I was a bit more careful than usual on some swooping downhill shaded corners out on the back lanes this morning.

+1. They can ruin a ride. Last year I had a front wheel slide experience (due to wet leafs) however managed to keep upright going along the flat circa 20mph. Equally as dangerous is the manhole covers and paint markings in the wet.
