Hello All,

I've had the same 7005 frame for over 20 years now it is a black Shogun Aluminium Comp series from about the mid 90s. I got it new for about 25 pounds at the time from a back of a cycle mag. All my other bikes are older steel bikes. I'm too big for Carbon, I think, but I keep getting the itch to buy a new aluminium frame, however I'm not sure if much has changed in the last 20 years. Is a new frame going to be all about a new paint job and stickers or has aluminium frame building moved on a lot.

Thanks

Don't know about the frame you have; however if I were to get a new frame it would be titanium. Or steel.

How much does it cost to Oldham?
Ignore him, he knows nowt!

I have a 1994 MTB owned from new and I kick everybody's ass when out on the occasional forum rides. If you are happy with the bike then how about fitting a new groupset to update it a bit?

Ignore him. He knows nowt.

New bike with a slick setup. Feels great. Come and have a ride with me and Skolly to show it off.

I've already got three steel bikes so I don't want any more of them. I've ordered a new groupset and I might get wheels, not sure yet. Leaning towards sticking unless the new frames are way better than they where 20 years ago. I think mine is plain 7005.

Although frame design may have improved and certainly components have come on massively, I thought that aluminium wasn't as good anymore?
Can't remember who told me that though, or if there is any truth in it.

Ordered a planet X pro Carbon frame in their sale, time will tell if it will take my weight. The Shogun will be turned into a time trial bike (which means throw on a pair of clip on bars and pump the tyres up a bit more).
