Hi, I am looking to get a pannier rack for my commuter bike but unfortunately my frame doesn't have the correct fittings to take a proper rack.

Can a seat post rack take a full set of panniers?

I have seen some that say that they will take up to 25 lbs but is this an accurate weight limit?

Or does anyone have any experience of these or could recommend one?

Cheers

Mark

I have one - quite a good one. 3 things:

25LB max on a good day on smooth roads I'd say.

Also, unless you have one of the ones with hang down side tubing, you can't use panniers at all.

P/hose clips is a much better solution for carry sizeable weight.

Hi Bigtwin and thanks for the reply.

Yeah, I am looking to get one with side tubing.

I was just abit dubious that that the seatpost rack actually works.

Ps, I have a carbon seat post, would this be ok for a seat post or would I need to change this?

I probably would be carrying about 10lbs per day, as well as the weight of the panniers (unsure of weight)

I just want to get a good quality one that would take more weight if needed on occasion.

Do you mind me asking what one you have?

Thanks

Label's come off mine a long time ago and I can't recall - but it's Al, no side bits, 4 bolt "bar stem" fitting rather than the QR type.

I'd have thought that if you have it right at the bottom of the post down hard against the seat tube (mount with old innertube to stop scratches) you'd be OK with that sort of weight. I did a lightweight long weekend summer tour round Brittany with mine with a rack bag and some stuff bungyed on with no probs.

Oh - and if you are putting on a rear sus MTB - remember to leave room for compression or you'll be doing some sudden expected brakeing!

LOL @ the suspension:becool:

My hybrid is a fixed frame.

:cheers:for the seat post protection suggestions.

I think I will go for one, just need to check with the LBS to see if they stock any.

Thanks

I have one, it's QR, no side bars, works OK but of the bikes I have now it only fits my mountain bike and I don't need a rack on my mountain bike.

You need about 75mm of bare circular seatpost, not cluttered by lights, underseat packs, or anything else.
