Hello !
I hope you are well?
I was just after opinions on whether I should invest in a new seat for my Kona Dew City Hybrid bike or just buy one of the gel seats that you can fit?
My current saddle , the original, is beginning to crack and I am pretty sure will split soon . I remember many years ago buying one of the padded ones that you just tie onto the seat and it was awful !
Anyway opinions/links to ones to buy/any information would as usual be greatly appreciated .....
Cheers

The answer is HERE. :okay:

I'm a big fan of Selle Italia gel saddles, but they tend to be a bit pricey. Selle San Marco Rolls are good old school saddles.

Whatever you do, don't buy a Brooks. You'll be dead before it gets comfy.

Comfy armchair to one person & a plank to the next
I like Selle Royal (currently using a Maya Moderate and an Aldi-sale "Trekking" which is actually a four-digit number model IIRC), but I have a Brooks Flyer on one bike. I think the "best" saddle will vary by rider and bike, but I really like my springs/shocks.

@I like Skol - is the Charge Spoon the same as the Madison Flux?

If you have a Brooksian arse, like wot I 'ave then it will be comfy from the off, no breaking in, no special magic oils, no need even for special shorts. If not, then at best you'll have to break it in. However it'll cost you £70 to find out twice that for blingtastic titanium. That said, I'm a convert, as are many others, but they don't suit everyone.

Brilliant ! Thanks!
I take it that the gel "covers" are as rubbish as I remember then as no one has just suggested to get one of these?
Are all bike seats pretty much universal fitting? Are they easy to fit, I don't think I have had much reason to look under there for a while !

Gel covers are pretty rubbish IMO. For not much more, you can get an OK basic short-term saddle.

Most saddles have two round rails. Some bike seatposts have clamps that grab those rails, others end in a plain post and need a separate clamp. You should be able to reuse whatever clamp it has as long as it hasn't bent (which does happen with some cheaper steel ones). There are a few unusual ones which now are mostly either very old or very expensive. http://www.sheldonbrown.com/saddles.html#seatpost

I'm not sure, having never seen the Madison or compared the two but I do believe a lot of people say they are the same, or are built on the same chassis or something. All I know is that the Spoon and Ladle can be bought for around £20 delivered and in my household have so far been a universal hit.

Morning all.
Looks like its the two rails on mine and you undo the clamp with allen key bolt underneath the seat and hey presto.
Having looked at the seat more carefully I think it may last me a little longer, just a bit of surface cracking.
Thanks again everyone and have a good day.
