Hi. After a couple of stints in the saddle on my new Triban3, I'm thinking that this particular saddle may need upgrading. I know very little about saddles, so can someone point me in the right direction for some decent different options that aren't going to hurt my bum as much ?
Cheers

Seems to be a very personal thing Steve but the Charge Spoon gets talked up a fair bit.

I have one on my hybrid and whilst it's Ok I much prefer my stock saddle on my Giant Defy 3.

Saddles are very individual. Are you a) new to cycling or doing lots more miles than usual b) wearing good quality padded shorts c) have you checked the angle of the saddle?

Where is the pain, bum or other ahem tender bits?

Charge spoon is popular, but some hate it too

I have 2 Brooks B17, a Fizik Arione and a Charge Spoon and IMO the Spoon is well worth a go for the price, it's become my main saddle for a fraction of the price of the others.

Thanks guys.
I've not tried tinkering with the angle. Pain seems to be a 'bruising' type feeling around the 'lower crack' area albeit I don't think there is physical bruising, but then again I haven't investigated in the mirror

Re the existing saddle angle, is there a particular angle to try (nose up or down) or is it a matter of suck it and see ?

I have some decent padded shorts, when I first get on the bike I feel fine, but after 90 mins of cycling, once I get off, I feel a bit tender.

THIS is a great site for set up info.

Rule of thumb is make sure the saddle is level, (seems to suit most folk), if not then small adjustments are all that's required. It can take a while to get things just right. Bear in mind that saddle height tweaks can be very effective also, it's not always about the angle, but remember, a small tweak can make a big difference.

Re: the Charge Spoon, as FF says, if you do want to try something different then it's well worth a shot for the price, but for me, I fall in the hate it camp sadly.

Try the Specialized BG fit system as well, it's how I finally ended up with a saddle that suits me after spending ££££'s on saddles that didn't!

TBH, a 'couple of stints' isn't really enough to know if the saddle is right for you, it may take a few weeks for the saddle and your behind to reach a compromise. I'm also wondering what shorts you have, what's decent to some may not to others.

I bought a Charge spoon and it took a good dozen rides or so before it started to feel comfy and even then, only rides for than a couple of hours with my Gore 'power' shorts.
