Hi all,

Cycled 50miles today, apart from some minor back ache and a fairly numb rear end it went well

My numb arse got me thinking about upgrading my saddle.. What I have now on my road bike is a very standard saddle, the bike itself was relatively cheap, so I suspect the saddle is probably worth around £10-20 - hopefully that might give an idea of quality.

With that in mind in just after something that more comfortable, while still being a saddle designed for a road bike.

Any thought would be greatly received !

Really the amount of times this is asked...give it a search in the forum

But to save you the bother people (all bar one) will come along and shout

CHARGE SPOON

(15 quid from wriggle)

For me, the best saddle is flat, hard and relatively thin (currently using Fiziks Arione). It's different for everyone though, at the end of the day you just have to experiment.

My LBS actually has loan saddles for you to try before you buy, although I think they may only provide this service when you have bought a bike off them...

I like the arione type saddles as well, another thing to look at is a decent pair of padded shorts, the cheaper ones tend to be ok for shoter runs but for longer rides a good pair of shorts is a must.I currently use decathlon "5" rated shorts and i can do full club runs with no discomfort.

In defense of Musa, some topics come up that you know wouldn't have if the search engine had been used. It's kind of just good forum etiquette, no? The 'what saddle?' threads which end up as most saying 'charge spoon +1000' appear every few days it seems!

Oh yeah, charge spoon +1000.

No worries pal ;) just as a heads up -

Want a road bike on a budget? Triban 3

Saddle on a budget? Charge spoon

Should you wear a helmet? Yes, all the time

I think that covers three topics you can find ample search results for ;)

What about...

Should you cycle through a red light?

and

Should you listen to your iPod while riding?

maybe even

Is it ok to get a free draft?

I'd rather that than someone overtake me... it's almost a sign of respect. I.e. "you're going a good pace... I can't get past, I'll just cling on". Although some don't like it. They feel like someone is benefitting from their efforts without doing a stint of their own in return.

Gone a bit off topic though... so... um... get a Charge Spoon
