Does Rutland actually exist, or is it like Narnia?
I've heard it mentioned a few times but have absolutely no idea where it is

Head down the M6 towards Birmingham, but just before you get there, turn east, drive straight through Leicester and about 10 miles out the other side - you are now in Rutland - stop there! If you don't stop - you'll soon be in Rutland Water!

Anyone doing the Rutland tomorrow? I'm doing the 54, my second Sportive after the short Cheshire Cat.
Can you post on what you thought of the area and roads, be good if you could also put it on my Rutland ride in "Informal Rides", thanks. BTW you might see me out there somewhere in the morning on my fixed, blue Pearson, wearing a cycling cap [me not the bike]

Bit more than that Colin before you hit Rutland as you are soon to find out!

Yes. Got soaked. Got very cold. Gave up. Not happy.

Me too. Crikey. Driving wind and rain and where did all those bl**dy hills come from ? I thought this was a flattish one.

And how come, on a circular route, the wind is ALWAYS AT YOU ?

Definitely a "why the xxxx am I doing this" day

Did it last year (54 miles only), and was really struck by how hilly the second half was. No big hills at all, just the fact that at one point they just keep coming at you without any rest, either at the top, or the bottom.

Tough one, but good when the sun shines.

Ah yes! I am sure that what you are referring to is what we call "The Rutland Ripple" and is towards the end of the ride, on fixed it's a bit testing. If you think the sportive was hard you should have seen the International CiCLE Classic today, we went up to the village of Owston to watch for a bit and it was grim, a couple of pics here:
