3 of us riding to Skeggy on Saturday from Chesterfield, I know the route in a car, but wonder if there is a way on some smaller roads that is easy enough to navigate?

Will keep playing with mapmyride, but last time I planned a long route it had me on roads which were bridlepaths, and to a fenced off runway at MCR airport,

Would rather not be on the A Roads as would like a nice natter as we go along at a gentle ish pace, cafe stops etc, and we are having a few beers on arriving, then a pre booked taxi back, as train will only take 2 bikes, and fare in cab split up is same as train!

Had a play on some of the on line planners and think I have a reasonable one, just a bit of A57 to do before Lincoln, then nice and quiet after that.

Can you let me know how far Skeggy is and which route you have chosen, i would be interested to know as i live in Dronfield and we have been on about doing this for a while.

I'm looking to do Chessy to Skeggy sometime next Spring. Weather a bit too dodgy for me this time of year, but would be interested to see your route. I was planning on heading through Bolsover, Ollerton, Tuxford, Dunham, then skirt round the south edge of Lincoln to Bardney, Horncastle, then join the A158 for the rest of the way.

Let us know how it goes

From east of Chesterfield I will be meeting mates in Clowne, it's about 80 miles from there, so Dronfield to Clowne is probably similar, I have 89 miles from my house.

Route summary, Budby, West Drayton, Lincoln, Fiskerton, Horncastle, Spilsby, Skeggy

I can help you with the yellerbelly bit.
There is a very nice cycle path that goes from Fledborough to Boston via Lincoln (NCR1). Then you can take some quiet B-roads up the coast to Skeggy. I would keep off the coast road (A52) as it is quite narrow and frequented by very inconsiderate lorries and car drivers. I did 15 or so miles on it once, but after nearly being knock off 3 times, never again will I use it.

How did you get on? Wasn't it a bit blowy on Saturday?

Yep very breezy but a nice day out, kept to the little roads as much as possible, couldn't avoid A57 from Markham to Lincoln, the worst bit was some tiny roads coming into Horncastle re the wind, and we had been looking for a cafe since our stop at Burton Waters. I had gels and enough liquid, but ne guy had run out and was flagging. There was nothing until Horncastle and we needed food and more water as it was pretty warm. Once re-fulled we rolled non stop to Skeggy.

The other two had ridden only 50 or 60 miles each before, and this was 82 for them, 91 for me, few pints in Skeggy then taxi back and it was a memorable day. Not too fast, 14.5 mph avge, but we got there safely.

Nice one. Planning on doing it around May/June time next year. According to mapmyride, its only a couple of hundred more feet of climbing than I normally do in the morning/evening betweenm Chessie and Matlock.

It's not really hilly at all, I climbed as much between home and Clowne as I did in the rest of the ride, couple of drags, but nothing that needed standing or bottom gear.

I'm doing Bolsover to Skeggy on the 29th with 20 other coppers so if you can't get on we are all enjoying ourselves. We go out towards thorsby market then wind around the back roads to Lincon. Then onto horncastle. Then the main road to skeggy. Just under 90 mile. I'll post the exact route when I find it.
