After my 4th punture in a week, I've decided to get some new tyres. Anyone got any views on whether to go for the Roubaix Armadillo Elite or the All Condition Armadillo Elite?

(Before anyone askes, I've had 2 front, and 2 rear puntures. Each time I've replaced the tubes and checked the tyres - I'm pretty sure they're caused by recent hedge cuttings in the lanes I cycle on).

I was a fan of the All Condition Armadillo Elite, but after a series of problems with them I gave up on them, I found that I got a lot of punctures with them, the outer laminate would get cut up badly on my rides with gashes up to half an inch, on one tyre the outer laminate started to peel off and another I had to abort a ride and go home with my tyre almost let down due to the beading starting to tear off, and in total I was lucky if I could get more than 700 miles out of a tyre before it needed replacing due to the cuts and gashes.

Despite that they were good tyres, fast and good grip etc but I will never use them again. In fairness they may not have been suited to the country roads I frequent a lot which gets a lot of flints and thorns etc deposited on them so on good roads they may be good tyres.

That's interesting, because that's the type of roads I do about 70% of my cycling as well.

What tyres are you using now? Are they pucture resistant ones?

I was recomended the following by my LBS, they are not perfect as I still get the occasional puncture during the winter months when I hit bad going, but very rare during the summer, but when I do, its generally a very large flint which has only just penetrated to give me a slow puncture or a shard of metal, possibly from a crash that has managed to get through the tyre. As a rule I have been getting 3000+ miles before I need to change them. At one point I did use Marathon Plus but they were a liabilty to fit out on the road when I did puncture took too long to fit in inclement weather and cold hands. The bontrager tyre's are simple to fit, plus the price is right
