I am wondering if any can spare a moment to point me in the right direction?

A good number of years ago (about 1991) I purchased a racing bike from Bob Reid Cycles in Doncaster and I would like try discover the history of the frame.

The frame and forks are both 531c with the name "Ronson" on the down and seat tubes.

As far as I can recall Bob Reid said the frame was hand built. On the down tube near the head tube are the insignia for National Cyclist Union and British League of Racing Cyclist.

Can any one enlighten me to who "Ronson" is?

Sorry to resurrect an old thread - just wondered if you still had your Ronson frame? I'm from Sheffield, saw a Ronson framed bike in Rotherham and have been trying - without any success - to find out a bit about the builder. The name sounds very South Yorkshire...

Probably too late with this, but I have a Ronson. It is a road bike custom made in 531c for a pro racer in 1986 - who I bought it from almost 10yrs ago. I was told that the framebuilder was a fireman (possibly part-time) and was the son of one of the framebuilders at the now defunct Carlton Cycles of Worsksop. His father's name was Ron, so he called his bikes Ronson (Ron's son). Chris at Eddison Cycles in Clowne (now closed) was also the son of a Carlton framebuilder and used a similar moniker as he was Eddie's son. Not sure if Ron's son is still alive, or if either sons worked at Carlton themselves, but it looks like he made a fair number of bikes around this time, including some radical MTB frames. All of the pictures I've seen use the same decal font but in different colours. I hope this helps and is still relevent.
