hi all
This is an 'informal' sportive that takes place on Sat 31st March this year in East Lancashire, so 4 weeks today. It starts from Pendle Hertiage Centre in Barrowford and goes for 50 miles with has 5000 ft of climbing... on as many cobbles as possible, so the route winds about a bit through back streets and up and down old packhorse trails.

No entry fee but you're pretty much on your own except for route arrows and maybe one feed station in Heptonstall (probably sponsored by Sport Sunday who'll try to sell pics of the event).

General link for description + route sheet: http://crossjunkie.blogspot.com/2009/03/ronde-route-description.html - clumsy I know but can't seem to insert link. To be updated nearer the time it says there.

Route on ripdewithgps: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/677579 - It winds through Colne, over the tops, through Hebden Bridge and up The Buttress. Oy!

Think I will do this, it sounds great. Have mentioned it to my clubmates who seem uncertain but we'll see. The ride is almost like a permanent Audax i.e could be done at any time but it would be fun to do it with company. Lordy might have to train for this, 8 miles a day commuting isn't enough...

I just had a quick look at the route ...

It's actually going in the opposite direction, so Colne is last.

I'd be concerned about sending lots of riders down Mytholm Steeps, especially if it is wet!

The Buttress is a pig of a cobbled climb that I've posted about many times before and to follow that with the climb through Heptonstall is pretty evil!

Nope - the first bit is 25-30%, and most of the rest is probably 10-20%! It is part of NCN 68, a seriously bad mistake IMO and I'm amazed that nobody has been badly hurt trying to ride down it! I turned down it once, panicked and only just managed to stop without going over the handlebars by grabbing hold of the handrail that you can see in the second photo!

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
Looks interesting (and free that day) but unfortunately no longer available  . Did they just pick out a pile of cobbled roads on steep hills to ride up?

Sportsunday will be doing the cake thing again this year. Yep just found a load of cobbles to ride up although it does go through some great countryside.
A really friendly ride with a great atmosphere. I would ride it myself if I were not shooting it.
