For at least 25 years I have used turbo trainers, but at the start of the week I borrowed a set of rollers.

Over the week I have played about on them doing nothing particularly special, just getting used to them really.

But I have just done an hours session on them with my track bike.....brilliant, absolutely brilliant. The hour passed by really quickly, in fact I was only intended going on them for 1/2 hour, but I appear to have got a little carried away.

Maintained my heart rate at around 140 to 150 BPM for the duration without to much effort, which is exactly where I want to be.

For overall improved bike control and improving your balance, I'm sold on them now!!

Just need to decide which ones to get now?

I'd be interested to see if you prefer geared or fixed on rollers... I certainly have a preference.

I love my rollers, ipod with music playing and a tv/dvd player set up in the garage so I can watch cycling dvd's - perfect!

Prefer gears - only because I don't have a fixie lol

I got some Tacx Antares last year, been great so far. Love 'em, very easy to use and now I'm relaxed on them I'll happily spend an hour just spinning away or doing a structured workout.

I'm thinking of getting a set too. Have been looking at Cycleops, Tacx and Jet Black - any opinions?

When I was looking I was more or less set on the getting the Tacx ones from Ribble, £109.99 However, I was advised that ones with aluminium rollers gave a more realistic feel to them, plus the CycleOps come with a lifetime warranty.

So I went for the CycleOps ones in the end, and they are really well built, if a bit on the heavy side for carrying about. On the plus side, they fold in half quickly and are then free standing.

Unlike some of the others, the CycleOps rollers are parallel, so you do need to concentrate that little bit more.
