Rollers for winter VS commuting

As long as I breathe, I attack.
I am tempted to get a set of rollers /turbo for winter but would it be worthwhile?

I cycle commute 10 miles each way every work day and i only miss if the weather is so bad it is treacherous to cycle , like when it got down to - 12 and the roads i use were covered in frozen snow as they only gritted the main routes.

One part was on a cycle path i had to walk as it was to slippy to even cycle .

So would i really benefit much if i am still commuting?

Providing you're still doing the daily commute, yes. The more you do, the better you get.

Sprog 2 might be too much of a distraction to use rollers once he/she arrives. But while you're making raspberry tea & curry, counting contractions and it's sub-zero, rollers might be better than no wheels moving at all

If you're not going to miss a bargain then hold off till nearer the time. Then you could buy them if the weather hits... and always sell them on again later.

I'm hoping next winter won't be like the last two :-s We all could have done with owning Land Rovers - but for two weeks of the year... hardly worth it ;)

Studded tyres and keep commuting.
I was actually in the weird situation last year of being able to cycle on roads I couldn't walk on

Commuting for staying fit. Rollers if you want to train for something specific (otherwise they'll get very boring very quickly).

Not enough clearance for studded tyres, the max i can get on is 25s .

I only missed maybe a week or so this winter , running on 23s made it "interesting ".

When the cycle path i hace to use turned into frozen ,compacted snow and it was -12 i knew it was getting a bit iffy .The alternative to the cyclepath is the "roundabout of death " so i took a break.

Turbo rollers will help. Always usefull having a turbo in case you break an arm/wrist (I know) - you can still ride. Rollers you can't !

BUT, and it's a big but, they send you out of your little mind. I can tollerate the odd session, but the desire to get 'out' and do real riding is too strong. Let's say, I was out on the bike just after two weeks from my shoulder operation. 1 turbo session a week after the op was enough !

Isn't this a perfect reason to get the N+1 ? You obviously need a winter commuting bike, which takes studded tyres!
