Roger Walkowiak, the man who "Did a Leicester City" in 1956 when he won the Tour de France after starting as a complete outsider has died aged 89. He had done very little of note before he won it and never got near that level again, but a bit of luck in getting into a break that built up a big lead and finished 18 minutes ahead of the peloton on stage seven and some clever tactical riding in the mountains got him to Paris in yellow.

I'm doubly sad, because this prompted me to check that Ferdi Kübler is still alive - and I found that he isn't.

Now there's only one rider left who won the Tour before I was born. RIP both, and well ridden.
