Rockshox DIY makeover ....

Bought these rockshox psylo race forks last year for £30 they were badly scuffed scratched and paintwork blistering down to bare metal and the fork top was chrome plated that was also peeling off in flakes so thought I would paint that the same colour too but as I am having my bike frame powder coated right now I thought I would re do these forks but the cheating way.

To have these completely serviced and painted up again can go into big money not really worth it as I can buy a new set for same or less, so I stripped them down with wet and dry to bare metal but whilst still together as to do it properly means fork strip down then possibly new seals and oil etc after so just used a few rattle cans for a good result.

I just love these forks the u turn travel adjust is great and the remote blackbox poplock is also great feature so thought i would tart them up cheaply, after stripping I masked them up thoroughly and gave no less than 5 coats of primer smoothing in between coats with fine paper, then 5 further coats of slate grey metalic or near as possible match as originally were smoothing again in between coats then finally 5 coats of clear lacquer.
The top seals are in pretty good nick but as difficult to mask with tape unless stripping forks down I painted them with a paint on masking fluid which dries like rubber and can be peeled away afterwards.

The Psylo logo's were not stickers but aluminium stuck on with 1mm double sided black foam tape but they were a nightmare to get off until someone said use a hair dryer to warm the foam tape then they'll peel away easily and they did, then a good clean of old foam and gluey gunk and new foam tape at the ready after just pushing them onto a round pole to bring them back into shape for re fitting.

Anyway got the logo's back on today after stripping masking tape away and here they are finished and looking lovely, just gonna leave them a good 2 weeks in warm room to fully harden as I have painted many bike parts over the years with rattle cans and if time taken and prepared right the result is great and pretty hard wearing.

PS I am not taking orders this was a one off makeover just for me:laugh:
