Hi,

I'm new to cycling and want to try out a cycle ride along the Rochdale canal to Manchester that would take around 3-4hours.
I was thinking about getting a train out of Manchester and cycling back.
Anyone got any suggestions?
Is there a map of the canal, i can't locate one on't'internet.

Cheers for any help

Hi Janice - welcome to CycleChat!

Unless you have a pressing need to go to Manchester, a much nicer alternative would be to get the train to Hebden Bridge and ride back along the canal towpath to Rochdale! It's about the same distance, but more scenic. I also would have worries about some chav leaping out at me in Manchester whereas it is generally pretty safe round here.

What he said^. Even if you do get jumped on in Hebden Bridge, it'll more likely than not be a woman keen to share your saddle. If you knowarramean!

Fixed wheel fanatic.
I used to do a great loop.
From Littleborough, up blackstone edge:eek:
left after the white house. Drop down to Mytholmroyd pick up the canal back to littleborough. Obviously the climb up to the white house is hard work, but after that its either big down hill or level on the path.
Watch some of the cobbled bits around Tod - they are very slippy.

Following the path from manchester means going through some pretty rough areas - rather you than me!
