Road Tyres on CX or CX Tyres on Road Bike?

I've been looking at buying a new road bike and started to think about buying a CX set of tyres for light trails at the same time. Which then lead me to look at CX frames too. Now I'm confused. I like more aggressive geometry frames as I like to be in a tucked position and spend a fair amount of time on the drops so think a Road frame would be better for that but would it take CX wheels/Tyres? And likewise would a CX Frame take Slicks?

Looking at spending about a £1 - £1.4K so if anyone has suggestions for bikes that would be good too. Was looking at Agree GTC, Trek 2.3 or Wilier Triestina. I will be doing Sportives ultimately but I train on light trails because I like to avoid traffic at times and there is a good trail route local.

I have a CAADX5 which I commute on. I love it. I've put fulcrum Quattro CX wheels on (the only CX part is the double sealed hub). I run 28mm conti 4 seasons on it and they'll go over anything. I also have sammi-slicks if I go off road/heavy track.

I think rim widths are slightly wider on CX wheels but so long as the rim will take a certain width tyre and you have clearance for it, then you can put whatever tyre on anything.

I see. So I can't swap the rims/tyres on a CX for road ones or vice versa. Just need to buy the correct tyres for the rims that fit which ever frame I choose.

Oh that makes things easier. Or does it actually? Now I've got more choice of frames to choose from! Cheers for the help!

If you buy a road bike, be wary of the clearance for tyres. Some can be very tight and won't take anything bigger than 25mm, so will be unlikely to take a CX wheel/tyre combo.
