Is it just me or are road legal lighting sets that comply to British Standard 6102-3 few and far between. Has anyone bought LED lighting that conforms to these standards at a reasonable cost? I don't really want to spend more than £40 inc postage as pennies are tight at the mo!

Yep they are few and far between Mike, that's why most people don't bother with the regs and buy the brightest lights they can afford.

Not very helpful advice I'll admit but I've never been stopped by plod, and 515mm was stopped once by a plod to ask where HE could buy the ones (Dinottes) 515mm was using!

Neither my front or back lights are legal in the UK(far too bright:rolleyes:).

You are just as likely to see a cyclist being stopped for having no lights as for having lights that are not BS standard.

Be as visible as your pocket can afford!

Halfrauds do a set of LED front & rear lights which are BS6102/3 compliant - a little over your budget but 10% off if you order online - I use cateye myself and have two lights at the rear - one on constant and one flashing

Thanks all for your comments!

I decided to stick with a SMART 1W LED front and 7 LED rear for now, till my pocket grows for something bigger.

Remind me, please. You need at least one steady light front and back right? Flashing lights optional, right?

I am sure everyone noticed that there are A LOT MORE cars with DIY LED clusters on their cars now. Some just white LED, some multi colour etc..

Are these road legal?

Some really went all the way and 'chng' till the car machiam like Chingay Procession Car, with the front grille, under carriage, door handles, rear number plates, boot lid etc all lined with LEDs. Doesn't the roving TP has anything to say about these cars?

It was like previously when people like to put 2 lights on the window washer fluid dispenser. That is fully stated on LTA website that it is not allowed as it causes 'confusion' to other vehicles. So these LEDs now.. lagi worse right?

The Cateye AU100 BS

The reflector is compliant not the light!

Additionally there is complication where the Road VEicle Lighting Regulations differ form the BS, hence Cateye now list RVLR compliance as opposed to BS

The light is compliant too.
There's a BS6102/2 mark on the edge of the reflector, and a BS6102/3 mark on the top edge of the light body, visible on the photo.

The RVLR refer explicitly to BS dated whatever. The standards have been updated since, but since the RVLR haven't, it's the old version of the standard that your lights have to meet.

No, 'flashing lights only' is allowed, law changed in Oct 2005 (?) but I read it's advisable to have a steady if you are anywhere but good street lit areas.(or at speed, because you'll be noticed on the road where the light flashes last )
Isn't it a strange wording where if it does have a steady light it all should be bs or euro standard, if only flashing it has to be at least 4 flashes per second and front being white....not those dodgey green ones you used to get, red on the back.

I've never bothered to aquaint myself with the lighting law in respect of bikes. is it compulsory to have reflectors and or lights fitted to a road bike even if you only use it in daylight hours ?
