Not sure you can, I believe CX forks are longer & wider to cope with the extra wheel clearance. Even if you can, you'd still have to use canti's on the back. Of course, if you don't want to ride a 'field gate' as you so eloquently put it, why not just buy a road bike?

Yes thanks for the reply, I am really very poor, and acquired this really rather pleasant frame for next to nothing, due to a crazy auction ending time. My initial idea was to just sell it, but its a class above my rather battered viking xrr. So before I started taking that apart, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something unwise. I have used canti's before and they are great, so no issue with them on the back, but I wanted to stick with calipers on the front, mainly as I already have a steel fork for the front which is not CX. The price of second hand alloy frames are ridiculous, usually down to unrealistic starting prices from the sellers.

It's about the Axle-crown length, and whether the fork is compatible with the headset really.

If your steel fork has the same length from axle-crown as the current CX fork, and the steerer will work with the headset then it would be fine. Otherwise you will be changing the geometry of the bike, or simply won't be able to fit the fork.

To be honest, I'd just keep the current fork and cantis myself. Maybe upgrade the canti brakes to Tektro 520s/720s and upgrade the pads.

Thats great stuff gentlemen, appreciate your comments; my spiderman six sense was tingling with this whole issue. My best recourse is to sell the frame and put the money towards an alloy road frame. Great forum, will use again.

TBH, the Kinesis frame is very decent and I think you may struggle to buy something better if funds are tight. I'd keep it as it'd make a perfectly good road bike, and enjoy the option of using it off road.
