Hi,
I am looking for a road bike for around £1k and have narrowed it down to the following. I spent the last couple of months agonising over what to go with only to be confused with the recent release of the 2017 models.
2016 Giant Defy 0 @ £800
2016 Giant Defy 1 @ £719
2017 Giant Contend SL1 @ £1000
2017 Canyon Endurace AL6 @ £1000

As you can tell I appear to like Giant bikes but that's just based on the homework (good or bad) I have done. Never ridden one so I am open to suggestions.

I am very much an amateur (currently ride a 10 year old < £200 hybrid; 30-50 mile rides at the weekend) and would like to enter a "Ride London" or equivalent in the Spring, which will be my first one.
I also like the hybrid bikes such as the Giant Rapid or Cannondale Quick but unsure how a hybrid bike will fair/be received if I turned up with one at a local cycle event ?

It's fairly hilly where I live so I am looking for a gear range that would be kind to my legs.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Lee

You could look at reduced carbon Giants at Paul's cycles?

Lots of flat bars on ride London too and sportives. Depends on what you prefer. It's about the engine you as much as the bone. They aren't races

Go ride some bikes (you can't with Canyon though) If you haven't? But you have been agonising a while so presumably you have? Buy the one that makes you smile. For a grand you could of course get two different bikes...

Take a look at Cube, i bought my Agree Gtc just as the 2016 model's came out.

My bike is a 2015. Aslong as you dont want the new model then you can save £££'s.

Or Ribble or Dolan

Problem is there are literally dozens of bikes that will tick your boxes

In your shoes, assuming you've ridden the Defy, buy the one you must like the colour of or the one with the best spec

For what its worth i recently got an endurance bike after trying out BMC, Giant, Speccy and Cannondale... Got a 2016 Ghost with £600 off!

thats the alu frame, but talk to Global Bike or Sunset and i reckon they would do the LC 2/Ultegra for close to £1k, carbon and 7.7kg..awesome spec and great for hills! I got the LC3 disc and its awesome!

Hi GF, could you tell me if the bottom bracket on the Ghost Nivolet is BB30 or PF 30 ?

I've just bought the Defy 1 for my wife and it's superb, I actually prefer it to my TCR. If it wasn't for the weld seams you'd think it was carbon, put the two bikes together and you can't feel a difference in weight. It rides the same too, just a tiny bit more upright.
