Basic maybe daft question.

Am ordering some pads from those wonderful folk at

discobrakes.com

Pads will be used on a tourer and a Brompton.

Never ordered these sorts of pads before, so question:

Discobrakes offers me these:

http://www.discobrakes.com/?s=0&t=2&c=52&p=128

or these

http://www.discobrakes.com/?s=0&t=2&c=52&p=140

Difference appears to be four chunks of rubber on the first and three chunks on the second.

Clearly the length of the pads is the same so that they will fit into the cartridges.

Any views on which might be best or is there diddly squat difference?

I'd also be interested in feedback on these pads from anyone who has used them.

Have only ever used discobrakes cantilever pads before and must say that I've been mighty impressed by them.

I think the idea is that a softer compound hits the rim first, isn't it? Followed by the more durable compound.

I've tried dual compound, and didn't like the braking as much as the single (soft) compound pads I changed from. Bear in mind that this is on cantis, so I needed every bit of help I could get - on a more powerful brake, it might not matter.

I'm unconvinced that there is any difference between the colours (or combinations of colours) on the Discobrakes product.
I just get the red ones now.

The salmon/black double compound Koolstops OTH are excellent...I have them on canti brakes like JTM, and love 'em.
