Hi am after a road bike
I have seen 2 that I like the look of
1 Raleigh Airlite 400
2 Dawes Giro 500

i am going to get it on the C2W scheme
so I will have £1000 but i will need to buy lights and a computer so looking @ around £900.

Those two bikes would be a long way off the very bottom of my list. £1k puts you in reach of some lovely bikes: low end Wilier, Colnago, Bianchi; or very nicely spec'd Canondale, Specialized, Planet X, the list goes on.

The Raleigh and Dawes may not be bad bikes but you can get a lot more interesting stuff for that sort of money. Spend the C2W voucher on the bike and save up for the accessories. Research your choice properly and you will end up with something very nice indeed for £1k. Don't rush it and end up with the wrong bike.

Above all else make sure that what you buy fits you. Not all bike shop employees know how to fit you on a bike. Some just look you up and down and guess.

A decent shop will take several measurements then sit you on a couple of bikes to confirm.

+1 there are many bikes that are nice but if its the wrong size it will be a horror no matter how mucjh you pay .

If you've got a budget like that, you have some great bikes you could consider.
May I recommend these bikes:

http://www.evanscycles.com/products/trek/15-compact-2011-road-bike-ec023944 (Also available as a triple)
http://www.evanscycles.com/products/bianchi/c2c-via-nirone-7-veloce-2010-road-bike-ec026395
http://www.evanscycles.com/products/fuji/team-20-2011-road-bike-ec026237 (I know some of the Fuji Faithful who'd kill me if I didn't put this in)

My preference would be this:

It's also available as 27, I've personally never been let down by a specialized bike, I've never read a bad review and they always look stunning. This is also a lot below your budget, but it gives you a lot to play around with and you've got the chance to buy really quality kit to top the bike off. Right at the top of the allez range, you've also got the Allez Comp 2010, but you'll have to buy quick to get hold of a 2010 model, and struggle to find one for around £900.

Evans Cycles always do me a good service, but I can say the same about Wiggle, but I tend to find they really are for people looking for top-end bikes.

Think about it, there really is a lot to consider, but I can guarantee the Allez Sport won't disappoint!

Keep an eye on ebay too! I picked up a 2011 Specialized Allez Elite for £500 at the weekend!
It was an unwanted prize from a Ride to Work push a company had put on. It was still in all it's wrapping and unused, a Buy It Now I couldn't refuse!
I had already been for a sizing so new a 56cm frame was what I was after!
