Road Bike under 350??

Hi everyone.

I’m thinking to buy a new commute bike. The distance between my house and my job is 6.5 mi. Currently I´m using an old vintage Road Peugeot 105. I´m happy whit that but some parts are in bad condition and It doesn’t brake properly under on the rainy days. I spent some money but it is almos the same...

I´m thinking to buy other new road bike under 300 or 350 pounds because many time leave my bike alone in the city centre and I prefer don’t use something very expensive.

I´m thinking in the next bikes:

But the last one is too expensive… but maybe it is worthy.

Which one do you recommend me??

Any other??

Thanks a lot.

I have a Triban 500 which I got second hand and can't fault it so far. It cost me less than half your budget, so you could get something really quite high spec for 350 if you dip in to 2nd hand market. If you must have new then this should be on your list https://www.merlincycles.com/merlin-performance-pr7-road-bike-2016-85148.html

I really like the look of that. It's got a utilitarian kinda vibe to it.

To the op, there's a good offer on a Giant at Tredz but I'm pretty sure it's only available in X-Small now.

I believe Boardman are generally regarded as quite a good brand however I'm sure someone who knows more about the specs will be able to give a more informed opinion.

Here's one recently posted in the Bargain thread. Looks fantastic for the money.

Post a picture of your current bike - if it has a decent frame, I'd recommend spending some/most/all of the £350 on upgrading the components on it - if you start witj a good frame you'll end up with a much better bike for perhaps less than if you bought an entire bike at that price.

Would it be worth restoring it? It could work out cheaper than a new bike and you could play the retro cool card.

Maybe cheaper but I need to spend money and time I repaired something and made some mistake and it is a little bit frustrated…

For example, Carrera Zelos cost 250 pounds is much better and everything is new…

All I can add is my experience with Carrera, really nice bike but took a few replacement parts to make it so. Peddles were the first to go, then the saddle. Tyres were next as I realised the importance of puncture protection on a commute. Brakes could be better, but did improve with upgraded blocks. I bought mine with no experience and went for price alone, I don't think I would by the same one if I had another go at it, but it may be the same for a lot of bikes. Off the peg rarely suits all.
