Road bike steerer size.

Hi,
I don't know much about bikes, the stem cover measures 1.25 inches so does that mean that I've got a 1 1/8" steerer? Is changing the stem just a question of undoing the bolts and slotting the new one on?

You probably do have a 1 1/8" steerer if you have a relatively new bike with an ahead stem, with allen bolts at the back. 1" steerers tend to be used on older bikes with quill stems with a single bolt on top. If you have an ahead stem, then yes, the answer is, the stem should slot off and the new one will slot on.

I wonder why this guy does this on a stand , much easier on the floor so the wheel does not drop out , but you get the idea.
