I understand you shouldn't be able to see the front wheel hub when cycling if a road bike is the correct size. However, is this meaning from the more upright rider position, or when your hands are down on the drop handle bars? I can see the hub when down on the drops, but not on the upright. I hope this is OK.
Thanks.

If you're comfortable it's right. Rules of thumb are all well and good, but they're not Holy Writ.

It's hard to say if I'm comfortable or not, as I'm new to road bikes. I do feel quite low down when on the drops, but I shouldn't be, as I bought a frame size based on having a short body and long legs. I am 5'3.5" with a 30.5" leg, so as you can imagine, a short body. The frame is 49"

My wife has a road bike, she is same height as you and her frame is a 42cm, fits her perfect and she feels really comfatable on it. uses a 90mm stem.

a lot will depend on the length of stem as well , as altering that can also effect handling as well , so best go with whats most comfy for yourself

Find someone who knows what they're doing to advise you - well established smaller local bike shops specialising in road cycling are probably your best bet; could ask someone in a local cycling club to recommend you such a place
