How do.

Giving the bike it's weekly do over this weekend I noticed that the front pads are looking worn - still plenty left for now but I'd like to know which pads I should go for to replace them?

The brakes themselves are B'Twin branded dual pivot (Triban 3 bike) - what should I check to make sure the replacements are compatible?

Also, the front pads are much further gone than the rear, is there any reason to avoid swapping the pads from front to back?

Cheers

Replacement pads are relatively cheap. I just replace when warn, and don't bother swapping front & back.

If the bike's still stopping when you ask it to and there's rubber left I wouldn't worry. There'll be a barrel adjuster just above the brake that should give you a good couple of months more of stopping. When you can't safely adjust it any more, return the barrel adjuster to its lowest setting and simply replace the blocks.

Swapping front to back is fine but all it will do is mean that you'll have to replace both pairs when you've worn them down instead of just one.

I tighten the barrel adjusters for now and keep an eye on them having replacements to hand for when you do need them. The only question is do you have single block pads (like these) or cartridge type (like these) that'll determine what type you can go for but any brand is OK. I like koolstops for braking in the wet, I tried koolstops (maybe slightly better in the wet) but didn't get much life out of them; at the moment I'm just using a cheap pair of BBB's from the LBS. I would bother swapping pads, especially if everything is running fine and quietly just now; I think its normal to go through rear pads faster anyhow, it is for me anyway and you'll probably want to have the thicker pad as is there.

Cheers folks  Much appreciated

I've done almost 800 miles on them and they should be good for a few more yet, using the barrel adjusters has been doing the trick but I just wanted to have the parts ready when needed.

They are blocks - I'm assuming they aren't the best quality with them being on a £300 entry level bike but they have been stopping me fine!
