Going away in July and I'd like to keep fitness level up, and don't want the expense of bike box hire and plane baggage charges.
Does anybody know of a road bike hire shop on Sal ?
Personal recommendations?I don't understand the need for this thread, I've just Googled and found two bike hire shops and possibly three in Santa Maria. What's wrong with people?
And do this rather than put the money into the economy and support the local bike hire place, is that the idea? What does that accomplish?Spend the money that you would have used on bike hire on pens, pencils, pads, deflated footballs etc and maybe put some clothes in your suitcase that you and your family never wear and donate them to the local schools or orphanages.
Well, considering the cost to you of sorting out your wardrobe and buying some pens against the cost of a holiday to Cape Verde I would suggest you could probably do both. There is no guarantee that the money you spend on your bike hire will be used to provide supplies where it is needed most, do you know that it would? Are the bike hire shops with their fleets of electric bikes and BTwins owned by the very poorest in Cape Verde? Doing it directly you are far more likely to get the stuff where it's needed. Much of the significant amount of money that is spent in the resorts on Cape Verde does not make it's way to the most needy in it's society, I see no reason to assume that the money spent on hiring a bike would. And do this rather than put the money into the economy and support the local bike hire place, is that the idea? I've looked at going but never been. One of the things that I have seen suggested is what I have mentioned above, it seems to me to be a perfectly simple and for me inexpensive thing to do which could make a little difference to someone that has a significant amount less than I do. In your experience are the owners of the resorts and the bike hire shops pouring money back into the country meaning that there is no longer any need to gift some very basic essentials to the local schools and orphanages?Do you know much about Cape Verde? I've been there half a dozen times.
