road bike gears

Is it possible to put road bike gears on a hard tail. And would I have to replace everything including the levers.

You could replace the mechs with road units, but you would need new shifters too. Road mech would likely not accept a huge MTB cassette, so that needs to be changed too, road chainset could be fitted as long as the front mech could be mounted high enough. Would be pretty expensive IMO.

What are you wanting to achieve? If it's higher gearing, then larger front rings will get you that.
