Hello all,

I'd be very gratefull for any advice on this one.

My road bike is a 2008 Trek 1.2, fairly basic bike with mostly Sora groupset. Over time I've upgraded one or 2 bits and thought I'd have a go at improving the brakes.

I ordered a pair of 105 (5600) calipers however I just went to fit them and found that the drop on them is not long enough for the pads to contact the rims properly. They're 49mm drop and having looked at the Shimano range from 105 upwards, they all appear to be a 49mm drop.

Can anyone point me in the direction of some reasonably decent calipers with a longer than 49mm drop?

Cheers

Are you sure that the Trek is designed with a medium/long drop? Sorry to state the obvious but have you adjusted the blocks on the 105's as low as they will go?

Yeah, with the blocks at the lowest point they both still catch the tyre when closed up against the rim.

It's annoying as it probably only another 3 or 4mm needed for clearance.

I'd not heard of the R650's before, they seem comparable on price with the 105's... does anyone know where they sit in the range?

Cheers

Ah that would make sense... a bit of Googling seems to suggest they sit around the 105 / Ultegra range so I think they'll do just nicely... as soon as I've sent the 105's back.

Thanks to all for the input.

Cheers

R650 are the sort of thing they put on higher end tours, hybrids & other things that aren't race bikes so yeah 105/Ultegra sounds the right ball park.
