Ok, so I bought the wrong bike

Thought flat bar would be good idea so now I am in need of a road bike. Luckily my company has just introduced C2W, I have 2 weeks now to decide which bike I can get. Had a look around and I am wondering if Cube Attain SL Disc would be a good choice or maybe Specialized Roubaix SL4 Sport?

Had a quick ride on them and both feel ok to me. I will be mainly using it on rides with mates after work and weekends plus occasional charity rides and alike. Got disc brakes on my flat bar and really like it, also not entirely sure if I want carbon bike at this price bracket. Any thoughts?

Cant go wrong with either. Its down to personal preference on brand/color

Both nice bikes. The Roubaix gets good reviews and so would not let the price bother you. carbon bikes are great :O)

How come you're not sure if you want carbon at this price point, is it the "lower grade"?
Granted it's not the same carbon used in a pro frame, but it's only a mite heavier... it's not like it's bin end stuff or a Friday afternoon frame though, it's still excellent quality from either make. Have a ride of a carbon bike, then see what you think to the stiffness and the weight (and build quality) in the flesh, so to speak.

Buy a Cinelli experience with Veloce groupset.

I'd like the black and white version but I already have the red/blue and the black/red.

Decent price at Halfords:

Specialized all the way - holds it's value better as well if you decide to sell...

...not that I own a Specialized and am bias in anyway :P

300km a week through London on a road bike.
I used the C2W scheme for the first time last year and bought a Giant Defy 1 Disc. Excellent bit of kit that I would thoroughly recommend.

All my miles are commuting miles, though I do do the odd event, such as a Sportive. I'm on country roads and through London and it has been great.

Also harder to find if it gets stolen -- Everyone seems to be riding a Specialized bike these days if not a Cannondale or <insert more popular bike brand here>

Very true, I had a minor heart attack when the local police were offering to 'tag' my bike only to turn up and they had a rotary dremill to drill my bike - no thanks, it's not steel and you don't want shards of carbon in your eyes I said.

Indeed the Sirrus and Allez are the most stolen bikes apparently, might just be because they are common of course

To be fair, I doubt Vickster is going to to reveal her source of stolen Allez's and Sirrus's on a public forum. You'll need to pm her.

Yeah good spot - I found the first one too.

Curiously, although the stats tables back up the article's headline, the writer seems hell-bent on lying through their teeth to support their message...

Headline: "...mid-range flat-bar commuter bikes turn out to be thief magnets."

The policeman officer said "A bike like a Specialized Allez – there are hundreds of them and thieves know they can shift them quite easily."

The paper said "...we wanted to know just which brands and models of bike were the most popular with light-fingered lowlifes. The Met didn’t have detailed figures..."

Then it says"the Specialized Sirrus is exactly the sort of bike Dixon was talking about" - no, he mentioned exactly one bike specifically, which wasn't the Specialized Sirrus.

And "Trek’s flat-bar bikes round out the top five, the 7.3 and 7.2. They’re classic examples of Dixon bikes". Again, no - Dixon referred specifically and solely to the Allez. "Bikes like the [Specialized] Allez" does not suggest anything similar to a Sirrus or Trek 7, except in very general price-point terms. (Assuming he wasn't referring to this http://www.specializedconceptstore.co.uk/s-works-allez-smartweld/33950/15allez.)
