I’m just starting to go for long road cycles and am just wondering what people store on their bike in case of a chain break or a tyre blow out. What are the item’s I should be taking with me?

For a puncture, obviously an inner tube and pump; then for chain problems I have a Topeak Hexus 16 multitool plus a set of KMC quick links.

I carry a spare tube, plus a repair kit and pump, and since I'm not into saving the grammes all that much, I have a chain tool in the kit I carry with me, which is moderately comprehensive - mainly on the premise that the thing you don't take is the thing you need. So I have multitool, plus chaintool, plus little adjustable spanner, double ended screwdriver, length of gaffer tape and a few zipties.

I'd get a bit of practice in taking tyres off and putting them back on.

Ditto the chain tool- this needs to be a top quality tool as cheaper ones tend to break with the pressure required and it can be a bit fiddly getting the chain to move freely in the place where it has been repaired.
