I remember I used to cycle round to my friend Martin's house to watch kids telly of a weekend and in the holidays and watch Tarzan.

Memories of Tarzan series from my childhood of seemingly endless summer hols.
Other great shows from that time - Casey Jones, Daktari, Flipper, Lassie, Skippy - them were the days.

It's probably bad form to drag an RIP thread off topic, but I remember our playground version of the Casey Jones theme: "Casey Jones - he mounted to the cabin / Casey Jones - fell out the other side"

He's another of those who you'd think died quite a while ago. I remember watching him as Tarzan on Sunday early evening TV in the mid to late 1960's. I also remember he had an adopted son or something like that called Jai. He also had a friendly chimp called Cheeta. Michael Jackson was born about the same time as me. I wonder if Ron Ely's Tarzan gave him ideas. 🤔

Doc Savage, still one of my favourites even though it must be at least 20 years since I last watched it, not the easiest to find on line either.

Got it on DVD. It gets cheesier and cheesier each time i watch it. I've tried introducing it to friends but they just don't get it. Shame they never made a sequel, despite it being trailed at the end of Man of Bronze.

There were 181 Doc Savage novels. I read most of them as a kid. They were pretty dated even by early-1970s standards, and the writing slipped badly about halfway through the run, but they were readable.

When the movie came out I went to see it, and was bitterly disappointed. It wasn't Doc Savage, it was a Doc Savage parody. And that's the only thing I ever saw Ron Ely in; the only Tarzan movies on TV or in the Saturday movies had Johnny Weismuller.

I got it as a wee bairn. Us sprogs loved it. I think the film failed because people were expecting something it was never meant to be. Either way, Ron Ely was perfect for the role.
