That's a shame. Saw him with Hawkwind a few times and at work we released his last studio album, Interstellar Energy.

Brainstorm is my favourite dental appointment track - I play it loud on earbuds to distract me from what evil the dentist is unleashing upon me! I did so again only last week in fact...

I first heard of Hawkwind before Silver Machine was released. Some of my teenage friends were on holiday in Cornwall when they heard about a concert on a beach. They went down to check it out and found Hawkwind performing. Apparently, someone was throwing handfuls of condoms down from the stage to the crowd, with instructions to "have some fun"!

Quark Strangeness and Charm is one of the great tracks for me. Amazing he lasted as long as he did really considering.

Being a youngster, Nik Turner had left Hawkwind by the time I'd discovered them in 1988... or maybe he'd be kicked out?

Not sure if this is true but I heard that Nik was a prolific farter as well as frequently (and noisily) drawing up phlegm... his constant hawking and breaking wind inspired the band's name.
