I worked for Gore for four years in the early 2000s and met Bob on a few occasions. Bob didn't invent Goretex as the OP suggests, that was his father, Bill. The way his father set the company up was incredible and a very brave thing to do. All employees are 'associates' whether part time assistant or founder and everyone's contribution is valued. Products are way over priced though. Since all R&D costs were paid off years ago, virtually all income is sheer profit and Gore-tex itself doesn't work. It can't in the way it's sold because physics won't allow it.
