I have just brought a pair of Mavic Ksyrium Elites from Planet X but they didn't come with rim tape. I rang them up and they sent some over too me but while I was waiting I was reading around and some wheels don't actually need them, like some of the fulcrums that don't have spoke hole on the rims.

These wheels don't have any spoke holes either so im wondering if these do actually need rim tapes? I can't see anything on the mavis web site to suggest that they don't need any so im not sure? Any ideas?

Thanks

No spoke holes, no rim tape.

excellent ill leave them off them! its probably only marginal but its a bit of a weight saving at least!

I have two pairs of rim tapes left over now! I think ill use them on my current wheels that have been demoted to training duties!

thanks for you help!

I bought some Michelin 'Easy Fit' rim tapes for my new MTB wheels.

They were a total bugger to put on.

Very sore fingers.

Rim tape? Nah, elctricians insulating tape, function is perfect, cheap as chips
Until it disintegrates!

Calum came out on a ride with me and he started getting multiple punctures when his insulating tape 'rim tape' failed all over the place.

He ended up abandoning the ride when we ran out of spare tubes and he got fed up of repairing them. (It struck me afterwards that we could have ripped the valve out of one of the old tubes and used the tube as a temporary rim tape!)

Mine never has, got 3 pqirs of wheels running over 20+ years with the same rim tape without problem.
