Obviously with high pressure tyres this occurs but is there any limit ?Mine doesnt have any holes or tears but is well pushed into the holes.

Should have cleaned the rim before getting my son to do the photo

I used Velox tape on my road bike and it looked the same as your Schwalbe when the tube was removed. It caused no problems as the edges of the indentations were smooth.

That looks OK, but mine failed and punctured because it was cheapo tape ( standard fitment ) replaced with good woven stuff like yours, no more problems.

I had puncture problems from this. Eventually the indentations become so deep that the tubes develop small bulges and then split. I mentioned this in another thread last week. Fitting this Michelin high pressure plastic tape solves the roblem.

It's normal. It's only really a problem if the tape isn't tough enough or if it hasn't been fitted straight and one edge disappears down the hole.

Many thanks for the replies.

I think mine are worse than it looks in the pic so have ordered some Ritchie high pressure stuff which they say is guaranteed not to bulge into the spoke holes.

Would have got the Michelin stuff but couldnt find it on Chainreaction or Wiggle.

some Shimano wheels have very large cutouts for the spokes. Two layers, one plastic, one woven should sort it out - it works on my 2006 '105' reserve wheels.
