I was very pleased to have found a Kona Honky inc in my size - my lbs had to order it from Kona. When I went to view it yesterday they said it was £1100. I was expecting to be paying around £1000 so I thought OK.

Then when I came to my senses a bit (the bike is still at the lbs as I am paying by C to Wk and the papers need to go through) i thought - hang on, the 2011 model is a retro dark blue whereas this one is white; surely its a 2010 model.

I have no problem having a 2010 model, but is £1100 the right price as I thought that was the price of the 2011?

I'll have to ask when I go to collect but thought I would put it here for your opinions.

Also I was amazed to find cycles don't come with pedals! I was lucky to negotiate a pair of SPDs into the deal - but as an extra? Its like buying a car and having to pay for a steering wheel!

I have seen the 2010 for £1000 but can't remember where that was(possibly Evans) but that will be because they have stock they want shut of.If a shop has to order it for you then chances are you'll pay full price.
Most decent bikes come without pedals, leaving you to decide which ones you want tp put on.
Nice bike anyway

+1 to that. I'd have asked the question about whether it was 2010 or 2011 before the order was placed, TBH.

As for pedals, Spesh ship their bikes with pedals but you'd be lucky if they lasted more than a few hundred miles before they collapsed. I reckon they are really just there for test rides and to cycle home from the shop.

Thanks for replies. I am sure they said they could order a 2010 and that is what it is. For some reason I had £1000 fixed in my mind, probably from 'net searches, and the extra £100 threw me. I think I got a good deal on the pedals though as they usually fit flats.

Hi,

The list price for the 2010 Honky Inc is £1125:

Here

The 2011s haven't even had their UK price announced yet - and I don't think they'll be in the shops for another month at least.

With the work schemes (unless they're shop specific like Evans), shops will usually sell at RRP as the scheme companies take a cut of the price - and they would loose money if the bike is discounted. They don't HAVE to do this as rules of the scheme, but a lot will so they can make some profit.

You're right, I would think the Internet prices for £1000 were end of line discounts for cash buyers.

Kona pedals are much better than Spesh stock pedals - although that's not saying much!

I think the ones on my Kona Dew lasted a good six months before they started clicking. My colleague's Specialized Tricross pedals started disintergrating almost immediately.
