Whimped out on a post work ride tonight.

I've been putting some long hours in at work recently. So much so that I often feel drained when I arrive home. Did plan on a ride out tonight but just couldn't be bothered due to feeling physically knackered.

Would I see any benefit from manning up and riding whilst already fatigued or is it best to rest up, recover and tackle a ride another day?

Just listen to your body. If it tells you that you are exhausted, then you are. Put the bike away and rest. Eat and drink to refuel your energy level.

Depends on whether the tiredness is mental or physical. I always found that going for a run or a bike ride was a great way of relieving stress when under a lot of pressure at work. The hard bit is getting out of the door - once out, I always felt better.

On the other hand, if your work is physical in nature, then rest might be the best thing.

My work is physical boydj. I feel physically tired. Mental tiredness can be easily overcome with a bike ride (in my opinion) There's nothing like getting a few miles done to clear the mind.

I believe it's rest that I need. A decent nights sleep may help. Should feel revived tomorrow morning and ready for a ride. Earlyish morning looking the best weather option.

Last night I rode home from work, as my wife wanted to stay with the dog after his bladder stone operation . I was tired, but it quit raining, and I rode all the way home before it began again . I felt fantastic. Sometimes you don't feel like riding, but you're glad you got out there once you have.

I get up a silly oclock and do a 12 hour shift.

When i get home although a bike ride would be nice i listen to what the body needs, rest, sleep etc.

No point in overdoing it and making yourself ill.

If it is a one off or over a short period, continue, being tired and fatigued is an essential part of over reaching, by pushing through it you will stimulate adaptation. If it is chronic, rest up. It is a good idea to not only record your mileage etc, but also record how you felt and any other activity that may have contributed to it.

Most people are paranoid about over training!

How are you feeling today? Ready for a ride? You'll hopefully feel the benefit of a good night's sleep and will be energised for today's fun!!!

How true that is.
