It feels much harder to ride when it is so hot but will I actually burn more calories?

Just interested to know if all my extra effort is in vain

imo the answer is simply no.
The body may 'burn' calories to combat heat or conversely cold.. but the numbers are too minimal to make sense.

Issue is... you mention 'effort' yup thats right when the temp gets over your comfort threshold then your stimulation and enjoyment of exercise can diminish rapidly.. but I hope you weren't inferring you'd take the car instead...?

You shouldn't burn any extra calories but you will lose more fluids, so stay hydrated and don't assume you've lost weight if the scales read lower until you've fully re-hydrated.

I wasn't complaining! I'm loving the warm weather and enjoying the riding. I just wondered because to me it feels harder work so I thought it must burn more calories.

It certainly wasnt a weight loss issue, I know you lose a lot of fluids by sweating more.

I love cycling in the heat. Its the best way to get a breeze and the sweat/ evaporation thing works much better.
