I want some glasses to protect the only set of eyes you get. But I will be honest and say I really don't know what I'm looking for. Any tips and things to look for would be great. Will be road riding.

Oakley. Not cheap, but very good.

Get some that fit and feel comfortable  Different coloured lenses seem popular for different light conditions

It's really down to personal preference but anything that stops random debris and insects is a must (the first time you forget to wear them and get a fly in your eye will convince you of this).

I use these. I like the wrap-around which gives extra protection and stops wind noise. The lenses can be changed to match different light conditions but I tend to just leave the yellow one fitted. It seems to have the effect of brightening what you see so turns an overcast day into a sunny one

One added benefit of these particular ones is that if they're rated for ballistic protection, they're not going to get broken by a stone chip

I've just purchased a pair of Sunwise Eqinox Sunglasses

from Amazon, cheaper than other shops. No need to buy the expensive ones unless you can afford them. In my opinion these will do the same. Mine cost £23 incl postage and have clear, yellow and two tinted sets of polarised lenses. Some of the sports shops were selling them for £39.

Good luck in your search.:girldance:

I'm lucky in that i can use my old pair of prescription glasses. They have the photochromatic (go dark) in the sun.
For you 20/20 folks ..... Dhb do a pair with 3 interchangeable lens for circa £30

Try loads on would be my first recommendation - just to see how they fit. Price does not guarantee comfort so it's worth trying pairs on just to find out what you like and what to look for.

Wrap around style (not necessarily full-on) is a must imho, not for looks or stream-lining but for eye protection. Not just insects but stuff in the air. Also, air flow around the sides of glasses can cause eye watering - wrap around reduces that flow.

If you're thinking of interchangeable lens then don't go overboard; clear is essential, then amber and dark (sun). Any more than that is 'nice' but not necessary, imho. Or you could consider having a few pair of specs with different lenses. That's what I do. I use interchangeable lenses for clear and amber but have separate sun specs as well. Personally, I prefer to swap glasses than change lenses.

You don't need to spend a lot for something that works. You'll find safety specs on ebay for a fiver that'll do the job (if they fit comfortably!) Have a look in TK Maxx if you have one near you. Or Decathlon - they have a very good range of affordable specs. And there's always Aldi and Lidl, when they have their cycling stuff.

My last bit of advice is to not spend more than you can tolerate losing! Glasses are the kind of thing that get lost or broken easily (at least ime). If I had a pair of £100 brand x specs, paranoia would get the better of me and I'd never wear them!

I use Jawbone's - the vents really help and there's a certain bad boy look attached these days.

For those that need to wear prescription glasses what do you do?

Are there any relatively cheap prescription equivalents to those mentioned above, or does anyone wear 2 sets of glasses (i.e. normal prescription lenses then the Bolle Contour over the top)?

I don't wear contacts (as I hate putting things in my eyes) but thinking it might be worth it in the long run. Very easy to get glasses scratched when commuting.
