Ridgeback Hybrids

A friend at work is looking at buying Hybrids for herself and her teenage daughter. Both would be used on an occassional/leisure basis.

Would welcome views and opinions please on Ridgeback Hybrid bikes (in £300-£400 range) which LBS has recommended (as the owner of too many road bikes, I'm not well versed on ladies Hybrids).

Alternative makes/models also gratefully received.

Cheers.

My university's Velocampus uses Ridgeback hybrids (male & female ones) since they're apparently almost bomb-proof and easy to maintain.

My last bike was a cheapo Ridgeback Adventure hybrid bought at a boot sale for £30. I did several thousand miles on it with nothing more than routine maintenance. Earlier this year I bought a new Trek hybrid. I can't say I am in love with it and regret selling the Ridgeback. I wish I had spent a few pounds on it to restore it and kept it.

I've been riding a Ridgeback hybrid for around 12-13 years now and it's been great. The only thing that I've done to it is tyres, brake blocks and replaced some spokes in the rear wheel when they've pinged.
Find it comfortable and as mentioned above, bombproof
Tell your friend to go for it!

My commute daily bike is a ridgeback supernova with carbon forks. Not the cheap end but a brilliant bike.Theres no reason to think that the cheaper versions are not built to the same standard just different specced.
Go for it.Mine in the picture has done around 4000 miles+

I've got a Ridgeback Velocity and it is pretty much bombroof. Only thing i've replaced on it has been the tyres for something a bit thinner than the 32s it came with, but still decent tyres that was on it Conti something.

My Velocity is back up in Scotland and I'm down south so haven't ridden it a while but I can't fault it when I was riding it regularly, as said above its pretty bombproof and as survived a fair bit of abuse. The rear tyre got replaced at 8500 miles, its had the regular stuff changed (cassette, chain, brake pads and cables) and the rear rim failed circa 6000 miles but nothing I'd consider major and premature.

Hi. This is an old thread indeed. I was looking for reviews on the Ridgeback Supernova as I have bought one today. I tested (and had my heart set on) the Ridgeback Advance, however found that on my short test ride my Carpel tunnel weakness, ulcer nerve problems, and short thumbs (brachydactyly type d) screamed that drop bars were definitely not for me. So I have a Supernova and was wondering how it faired on non tarmac roads. I live in Cornwall so plenty of places to ride here.

Got a ridgebck velocity for commuting at the moment and its a good solid bike. Only problem I have with it is the adjustable stem for the bars which I just cant get to stop squeeking.

I have one its pictured a few posts above yours . Fantastic bike in every way.
Thanks for your reply. I went out on a 14 mile ride over the weekend, but experienced quite a lot of discomfort so heading back to the bike shop for some adjustments. If it's anything like my mountain bike it will need a few tweaks here and there. I had a go at raising the handlebars but nothing seemed to budge. Do you know if it's an adjustable height bar or if it needs spacers? I shall post a picture this week, it's deep red and has wrap around mud guards - virtually no mud from the ride unlike my friends bikes, amazing.
