I was wondering if anyone knows any good road routes around leeds and west yorkshire? around 40 miles round trip or not, more or less i dont mind, i cycled to the peak district today and the roads were appalling so i wont be going on that route again. any suggestions will be very welcome.

Here's a route we did as a CycleChat forum ride this Spring from just north of Leeds: Golden Acre Park - Burnsall Loop

It is 82 km (51 miles) and has some good hills and scenery.

depends which side of Leeds you're in.

If your north or west side, then i'd recomend Wharfedale (eg. Bolton Abbey) or Airedale (eg. Haworth) both of which should be within 40mile (ish) round trip distance.

I can get to any side of leeds as its not really that big, but i live in dewsbury and spend most of my time in leeds city centre. anything is reachable really. the golden acre one is a definate though as i know the route off by heart. I think i might find a decent route up the washburn valley past lindley wood and past the reservoirs too. thanks a lot, any other ideas?

nice route that colin. Which way did you tackle it? Up Langar or up Cow and Calf?
We rode down the Cow and Calf on the way out and up Langbar on the way back.

I really must make an effort to come out on one of your rides soon.
You'd be welcome!

I probably won't organise another ride this year, though Sysagent is doing a nice one round the Trough of Bowland on the 31st which I will be riding. It might be a bit too far for you to travel though (the start at Whalley is about a 40-45 minute drive from here).

Here is one of my favourites, from the north side of Leeds -
- King Lane, along the Chevin, Menston, Otley, Pool, A658, Kirkby Overblow, Sicklinghall, Linton, Wike Ridge, Roundhay. 45 miles, depending where you start.

Do you have Tracklogs?

since i don't know what tracklogs are i doubt it. i do know all the places you've mentioned though. sounds like a good ride to me! thanks a lot. cycling to the peak district made me never want to do it again, the road surfaces are bone shattering. not fun at all.

Yorkshire roads aren't any better - use lower tyre pressures! 95-100 psi rear and 85-90 psi front and you should be a lot more comfortable.
