I have just watched "Helicopter Rescues" on TV. It featured a crash caused by a landrover towing a livestock trailer that involved and injured members of the Richmond CC out on a club run. The vehicle didn't stop. I don't know how old the filming was . The programme didn't tell us if the police ever caught up with the hit and run driver. Is there anyone on here who knows.

I saw this too, glad my SWMBO didn't though. I was at work but kept popping back to the lounge hoping for an update on wether the driver had been caught. Seems like the two who went off after the driver didn't even get the reg unfortunately.
Wondered if they'd had to edit out the 'yes yes yes, but hows my bike?' which is what I'm like when I've had an off.
Glad it worked out like it did, as we know other such incidents have ended much worse.
In the same episode there was also an older MTB rider who had an off into a dry stone wall, I thought they did well to avoid blaming him for not wearing a helmet, but just mentioned it.

Just watched this. A very partial description, the car's probably local, It's a bit depressing they didn't seem to go after a dangerous driver who fled and left his badly injured victims lying in the road.

It was a friend of mine who came off worst in the accident. We visited him in hospital back in April and saw him again in August. He's back on his feet and doing really well, but still has a long way to go to fully recover.

They found the driver who caused the accident but he is denying he is to blame, and even tried blaming the cyclist he overtook for the accident - his trailer his the lead cyclists as he pulled back in - what a b*st*rd! My friend faces a long draw out battle to get compensation.

It's ironic when you consider my friend and his wife moved from Wiltshire to the Dales thinking it would be a quieter and safer life up there, only for this to happen. He was subject to a hit and run whilst cycling down this way a few years ago and got a badly damaged arm for his troubles. Some people are tragically unlucky.

Thanks for that information. It is good to have completion to the TV story that left things a bit in the air. Here's hoping your friend continues to improve and makes a full recovery.

Yes - I hope your friend makes a full recovery.

A similar thing happened when I rode the North-West Passage audax in 2007 ...

I'd read about the dangers of the A682 between Barrowford and Gisburn and wasn't looking forward to that stretch of road. Sure enough, I saw some dodgy driving and was almost shoved off the road by a couple of way-too-close overtakers.

I stopped in Gisburn to top up my drinks bottle and a group of older cyclists pulled over next to me. One of them appeared to be having some kind of fit but in fact he was apoplectic at what had just happened to him.

A farmer towing a livestock trailer had decided to overtake the cyclists on a blind bend. A vehicle had suddenly appeared coming the other way so the farmer swerved in to the left and his trailer had side-swiped the old guy, knocking him off his bike onto the verge. Fortunately, he suffered no more than cuts and bruises, but the farmer didn't stop to establish that. He either didn't notice what he had done or he didn't want to accept responsibility for it and just drove on, leaving the cyclists to untangle the old rider from his bike.
