Rohloff shifters only come to fit 22.2mm handlebars, the standard size for flat bars and most trekking style bars. If you have road handlebars, or larger trekking bars, 23.8mm I believe is the standard for those, then you need to use a workaround. A popular one is an extension at the end of a drop bar that basically adds on a section of 22.2mm bar to fit the shifter to. you can cut away a bit of the drops to do this or just fit to end, depending on preference. This official bit of kit is about £30-40 but you can make your own for less than a fiver...I did.
I can give details of 4 other workarounds to fit a 22.2mm twist shifter onto a bike with 23.8mm bars, but feel that might be overkill for your needs here
I've already got the Rohloff on butterfly bars but would like to try with North Road bars. If I don't get on with them I can always use it for an old Sturmey Archer 3 speed Hercules I've got.
Aha, seems familiar, I have the SRAM I-9 hub(twistshift only) and, en route to drop bars, moved from butterflies to Northroads, seeking to get the controls on the sides where I like to ride....good luck
