Retrieve cable head in ST-5700

Forgive me CC for I have fettled.

trying to replace a snapped gear cable. The cable had snapped in the shifter. Have got 90% of thr old cable out, but the frayed end and cable head are stuck inside the shifter.

How does one get that last bit out to make way for the new cable?

Replace with Shimano SP41 optislick cables. They are mint.
