I took a pre-work trip to the tip this morning to dump the detritus left over from our recent building work when I saw a bloke about to heave what looked like a steel framed Holdsworth into the big bin. Rather stupidly I said to him, "Are you chucking that out? " followed by " 'cos if you are I'll have it" He said you're welcome to it but I've already chucked the back wheel in. Then a friendly waste operative person came along with a grabber and picked out the back wheel for me.

Turns out it was a 531 framed Mistral. It's a bit of a hotchpotch of parts (Campag rear mech, Suntour front and shifters, Weimann brake on front, a different one on back, weimann levers). Complete apart from no seatpost or saddle. Doesn't look like there is anything stuck in the seat tube, headset seems OK. Haven't measured it yet but it looks fairly big to me, and it's red!

Will put up some pics if anybody is interested. Should be good fun cleaning it up and building it up a bit. I'll have a look at the catalogues later to try and get it's age, but I'm guessing early 80s.

I am well happy to have got it for nothing anyway!

Had the bike touched the ground, it would have been impossible to take....

According to my council tip when I spotted a Giant TCR frame that had just, i mean just been put down.

Well done!

Yes as said already that' a nice find.If you go gently around the seat ost it should come back together.
A former inside the frame and gentle tapping should do it.Heat would help but it would knacker the paint.
